One of The Oldest Orthodox Christian Countries

Orthodox Christianity in Georgia is a deeply ingrained and historically significant aspect of the country's identity. The Georgian Orthodox Church, established in the early 4th century, is one of the oldest Christian institutions in the world. Christianity was declared the state religion in 337 AD by King Mirian III, influenced by Saint Nino's evangelism. The church has played a crucial role in preserving Georgian language, culture, and national identity, especially during periods of foreign domination.

Country with Robe of Jesus

Georgia is often associated with the Christian relic known as the "Chiton of Jesus" or the "Robe of Jesus.". According to Georgian tradition, the Chiton (or Robe) of Jesus, which he wore before his crucifixion, was brought to Georgia. It is believed to have been brought by a Jewish man named Elioz (also known as Elias) and his brother Longinus from Jerusalem to the ancient Georgian city of Mtskheta in the 1st century AD. The Chiton is said to be buried under the Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in Mtskheta. This cathedral is one of the most important religious buildings in Georgia and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Country with Robe of Saint Mary

A history museum in Zugdidi (in western Georgia) has preserved many of the sacred artifacts confiscated from churches and monasteries at the beginning of the Soviet rule, from 1923 to 1936. Included among the artifacts is the Robe of the Most Holy Theotokos, which was brought there from the Dormition Monastery in Khobi (near Zugdidi).
According to one account, it was brought from Jerusalem at the beginning of the 12th century. According to another, it was brought to Georgia in the 8th century, during the period of iconoclasm in Byzantium.
